House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters “yes” Wednesday night when asked if the GOP leaders have enough votes to pass the revised Trumpcare bill. On Thursday, they passed it with 217 votes, 1 more than needed, after spending days scrambling to round up votes for their legislation. Some media outlets are calling its passage a major win for President Donald Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan after GOP opposition forced them to abruptly pull the bill in March, but the bill still faces an uphill battle in the Senate. The latest iteration of Trumpcare would let states escape Obamacare’s requirement that insurers charge healthy and seriously ill customers the same rates.
