I have been conducting an odd experiment. Last year when moving out of a building I had leased I found 3 old style mail boxes on 4′ tall 4×4 posts and 3 wall mount mail boxes. I marked 2 of the wall mount boxes with the addresses of commercial buildings but added “Suite A” to the address and I epoxied them to three different commercial buildings, One of them was removed but two are still in place and I have send mail to historical figures at these addresses successfully.
One of the mail boxes on a post I put on a houseless street connecting Aurora with Greenlake and just made up a house number. It lasted a week and was removed. I have addressed letters to “Mr. Toad. Duck Island, Green Lake, Seattle Wa. 98103” and it was returned but I was successful in establishing a mailing address at the site of an old sealed building inside a Seattle City park and have had a mailbox there for nearly three years. The post office doesn’t seem to care even though it must ad 30 minutes to the drivers route.
