Harbinger story out of Denver, which is booming in so many ways and also pushing out artists. The parallels with Seattle: Denver arts funding scheme is about to be imported here (if voters approve in August) under a local Cultural Access Fund. But in Denver it’s been more about new public funding for the majors than helping the broad ecology. Secondly, the rallying of arts supporters behind preserving marginal buildings for arts spaces is echoed here. Third: the Faustian bargain cities like Seattle, Portland, and Denver create where the boom revitalizes neighborhoods but at the cost of the creative class that sparks the boom. How to fix???
