Our religious community is hosting a “ballot party.” We are invited to bring our ballots, stamps, voters’ pamphlets and political propaganda. The session will have a “master of ceremonies” to guide the discussion.
When WA went to mail-in ballots, I worried, “What if mega-churches had ballot parties and it was (subtly) recommended that hundreds and thousands of congregants vote certain ways?”
I never expected that my OWN community would participate in such questionable practices. I believe strongly that we should discuss issues and candidates. But I also believe that each of us should fill out his/her/their ballot in private, not in the presence of people supporting one side or another. It is too easy to be swayed in a group setting. We have the right to the privacy of our votes and should exercise that right.
