The Guardian: ” Clinton, Holt put Trump on defensive”

Clinton, Holt put Trump on defensive

Goaded by Clinton and pressed by moderator Lester Holt, Donald Trump angrily defended his record against charges of racism, sexism and tax avoidance for much of the first presidential debate. The Republican candidate blamed the nation’s chronic problems on Clinton, while also appearing thin-skinned and under-prepared as he sniffled his way through the debate. Clinton said captureher opponent “lived in his own reality”. After a particularly one-sided exchange, Trump retorted, “It’s all words, it’s all soundbites,” adding that Clinton was a “typical politician: all talk, no action”. In her closing remarks, Clinton also noted that he had called women pigs and slobs and, in one case, called a beauty pageant contestant Miss Housekeeping “because she was Latina”. Trump, later told a TV interviewer that he had shown heroic self-restraint in not mentioning Bill Clinton’s past infidelities out of respect for their daughter Chelsea. A CNN/ORC poll found Clinton won by 62% to Trump’s 27%.

Guardian columnists take debate temperature

Donald Trump blew it, but will voters take any notice? asks Richard Wolffe. “The Republican candidatecapture behaved like a heckler at a Clinton speech. The problem is, that may be how a lot of Americans feel.”

David Smith concludes that Hillary Clinton showed strength over Trump in one of history’s weirdest, wildest debates: “As he ducked and dived with incoherent excuses, she stared at him with thinly veiled contempt.”

In our post-debate panel, Jill Abramson declared that Trump was rude and Clinton too pleased with herself while Steven Thrasher said Trump displayed no “morning in America” Reagan optimism.

Naomi Wilson FACEBOOK Watching Trump debate is like watching porn. I’m disturbingly fascinated at first by the shock of what’s happening but that quickly turns into sadness for what it all means. Then, I remind myself it’s all just acting and become even more depressed and creeped out. I can’t watch.

What a classy lady. Man. Never raised her voice, stayed cool, didn’t engage with him. You want stamina, mister? You asking about STAMINA? Call her whatever you want, but when I need to, oh, say, bulldoze through a brick wall to save my loved ones’ lives or stay standing as buildings and mountains crumble around me, I want this woman by my side, holding onto me.

Last night in the first debate, Donald Trump said that not paying taxes makes him “smart.” That’s right: Donald Trump thinks it’s smart to get rich using the roads and bridges and educated workforce that the rest of us paid for, protected by a world-class military that the rest of us paid for. If Trump brags about not paying his fair share for the government, then we shouldn’t put him in charge of it.

After the debate poll of viewers watching on MSN and as I did gave the win to Trump with 59% over Hillary with only 41%. Her policies on our needed national financial direction were lacking with the expressed free college and only higher taxes expressed. Trump gave not only the need to provide incentives for investment here in US industry and job creation but also how it will obviously work to all of our best interests. Hillary on foreign policy admitted as Secretary of State her efforts resulted in; ISIS, Libya, Iran, the bad policy busts as exposed by Trump and that he wants foreign countries to pay there fair share as agreed in securing and even defending against terrorism. Hillary showed all her preparation was at making specific disparaging names for her opponent and instead of telling her policies paraphrased her opinion of trumps and then rebutted like real. Trump responded to her false claims by over the mic saying simply, “no” and his messages to us were clear leaving him time to not only voice his positions but give the reasoned justification for them. Like him or not he did do the better job and proved he is a tough negotiator who will not have words put in his mouth without rebuttal and he clearly proved his point with dates names.
