  • Michael Miller The reason Japan surrendered is not because we did that much damage but rather that they were afraid there were more bombs coming. The Arabs likewise respond well to fear. So far, we’re not using fear as a weapon against them.

  • Dov Shmuel Freedman It seems to me that it’s not so much that they respond to fear so much as, like many (most? more or less all?) bullies, they pursue easy fights, and we’ve (USA) done nothing to convince them we’re not easy.
