A political firestorm erupted Tuesday afternoon after GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump told a rally crowd in North Carolina that Hillary Clinton wants to confiscate their guns and they should use the “Second Amendment” to prevent her from appointing Supreme Court justices. CBS News reports:
“Donald Trump suggested at a rally Tuesday afternoon that the ‘Second Amendment people’ could do something about Hillary Clinton choosing judges if she is elected president, a comment some took to mean he was implying violence against the Democratic nominee.
“‘If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,’ he said at a rally in Wilmington, N.C., to boos from the crowd. ‘Although the Second Amendment people … maybe there is, I don’t know.’
“The comments came as Trump was discussing Clinton’s position on gun control measures, with Trump repeating his frequent claim that Clinton would ‘essentially abolish the Second Amendment.'”
The Trump campaign is already attempting damage control:
“Trump senior communications advisor Jason Miller said in a statement that Trump was referring to the political power of Second Amendment supporters at the ballot box, not to any sort of violence.”
But Trump said what he said, and what he said is clear enough, at least to a lot of folks. All the major media outlets are giving the story headline play (but no, you won’t find it on Fox News). Read the story here and here and here and here and here. And here, here, and here. I’ll be extremely surprised if GOP leaders aren’t huddling right now about how to make Trump step down.
Donald Trump is Anti-American, even his wife is imported, along with his necktie and clothing line. Trump wants to make America great. But America is already great just for putting up with his unqualified run for the White House.
Former Republican Senator Gordon Humphrey is urging GOP leaders to remove Trump from the ballot.
Meanwhile the Secret Service has stepped in to speak TWICE to the Trump campaign about their incitement for using/abusing the Second Amendment threat.
