A CNBC senior political correspondent warns Democrats in this article they’d better have a Plan B ready in case Hillary’s November opponent isn’t Donald Trump.
Trump, he says, “is accustomed to unflagging support, idol worship and winning.” But now, with the early adulation dissipating and facing mounting criticism, he “is exhibiting signs of intense frustration” and “there seems to be a change in the air.” Where it could be heading is, “Trump may have to choose between two outcomes that are not only wildly unpalatable, but two descriptions that he uses to belittle others: Quitter or loser.”
This “might be too much for even Trump to bear.” Reviled and facing certain defeat, he may decide to make like Lucy and pack up his football and go home. Or, the GOP leadership may yet figure out a way to fire the apprentice politician.
Given Trump’s latest meltdown over a Hispanic judge, which has Republicans high and low running for cover, neither of these scenarios seem totally far-fetched.
