Pope Francis to Rabbis: Things Would Be Just Fine If Jews Were Good Christians
Recognizing “anti-Semitic trends in Europe,” last Monday Pope Francis told a visiting delegation from the Conference of European Rabbis, that he saw the recent seventieth anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, as “synonymous with the great tragedy of the Shoah.” Francis noted that for almost fifty years, “the dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Jewish community has progressed in a systematic way,” which calls for gratitude to the Lord, “rejoicing in our progress and in the friendship which has grown between us,” he said. So far so good, but the Pope went on to equate “The memory of what took place there” with “acts of hatred and violence against Christians and the faithful of other religions.” Auschwitz was NOT about religion! It was racism, the determined belief of the German Nation that Jews were bad and should be cleansed. This Pope may not understand what Hitler did all too well .. Jews are defined as a people, not as a belief in God. To make this event worse, this Pope’s predecessor, Pious XII is now being considered for sainthood. Pious XII’s lack of action to protect the Jews during WWII were justified, according to Pious’ defenders by the need to defend God, that is the Church, against the Nazis. Pious XII put God above people … above the Jews. The Nazis never asked their Jewish victims who did or did not believe in God. Nonetheless, in commemorating Auschwitz, Pope Francis called on Jews to join with Christians in defending God. He told the Rabbis that Jews and Christians have “the blessing but also the responsibility to help preserve the religious sense of the men and women of today, and that of our society. … People are often tempted to take the place of God, to consider themselves the criterion of all things, to control them, to use everything according to their own will.” Yet, the Church this Pope heads has never accepted its guilt or reneged on the sainthoods it has bestowed on past Christian monsters who enslaved, burned and destroyed other people … always claiming to act in the name of God over man.
