Internet rumor has it that President Buhari would soon visit Nigeria to explain to his ill-informed supporters why he went to China to borrow $6billion at 28% interest considered cheap loan for a country ruled by an illiterate in his 70s. Even a die-hard anti Buhari Nigerian such as myself would have suggested to the dying president that Nigerians in the diaspora remitted about $20billion dollars to their friends and relative last year interest-free. And they have been doing so consistently for the last three years according to the World Bank. Now to you supporters of Buhari, I know you hardly think beyond he is fighting corruption, but you can at least agree that if the President set up a special diaspora account at the central bank, and then ask the diaspora community to buy a special treasury bill in denominations of 1, 5, and $10,000 denominations, with guaranteed interest yield of 5% and five year maturity, I would jump on it and campaign in support of it. I can assure that those of us who have a 100 reasons to dispise Buhari have a 100 reasons to love Nigeria and we would gladly loan Nigeria more than she can ever get out of China and cheaper too.
