The Democratic End Game

Bernie-Sanders-Washington-Caucus-450x270Bernie Sanders probably won’t win the Democratic nomination, even though he’s the Democrats’ most successful insurgent candidate in modern history. Sanders is riding high thanks to overwhelming support from an entirely new cohort of voters: The huge Millennial generation, who suddenly are on everyone’s political radar. He’s also getting help from Midwestern blue-collar whites.

But that’s probably not enough to overcome Hillary Clinton’s overwhelming support from blacks and Hispanics. The only way Bernie can win the nomination is by making significant inroads into her grip on these traditional Democratic constituencies. We’ll see whether he can do that on the last day of primaries, when California and New Jersey vote, which is when the nomination likely will be decided. Yes, that’s that close.

Regardless of what happens, this improbable aging relic of the Woodstock era has changed the dynamics of Democratic politics. Read the story and analysis here.
