Gov. Jay Inslee wrote a memo last week prohibiting non-essential state-funded travel to North Carolina:
“Our nation is rightfully moving toward increased acceptance and celebration of diversity. The discriminatory policies being promoted by North Carolina is not something our state condones or supports,” Inslee said.
The Governor took this action to protest North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory’s signing into law a new bill that bars transgender people from using the bathrooms that matches the genders they identify with. The new law also blocks local communities from passing anti-discrimination ordinances to protect members of the LGBT community.
The backlash against the North Carolina law has triggered lawsuits as well as reaction from the business community, with chief executives running dozens of big technology, biotech and financial companies urging North Carolina officials to repeal a new state law preventing local governments from expanding protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
Where is the UW on this?
