Maine’s obnoxious governor, Paul LePage, who’s in office because of 3-way gubernatorial races in which he needed only a third of the vote, is up to his old tricks again:
“Another attempt [to derail Trump] took place at a Republican governors meeting last week, where Maine Gov. Paul LePage called for his fellow state heads to pen an open letter ‘to the people’ against Trump. LePage’s colleagues, according to the newspaper, never took up the suggestion. Six days later, LePage gave his endorsement to Trump ….”

That’s just like him. Two weeks ago, he caused a storm by appointing himself state education commissioner. He doesn’t trust anyone else to screw up Maine’s schools. Earlier this year, legislators tried to impeach him for abuses of power; and in 2014 a court blocked his efforts to harass Hero Nurse Kaci Hickox.
Of course, LePage isn’t the only rat climbing aboard Trump’s ship before it leaves the dock. A whole raft of Republican politicians are endorsing Trump — the surest sign yet that GOP poobahs now think Trump is unstoppable. That’s what Paul von Hindenburg thought, too, when he appointed Hitler Chancellor of Germany.
