“The Raiders announced they are finalizing a deal to acquire Marshawn Lynch via trade with the Seahawks on Sunday afternoon. The trade is likely to net the Seattle franchise with at least a fourth round pick.
Rumors had been swirling since preseason that the “organization has grown tired of his ways, including pulling a no-show at the White House Super Bowl ceremony, his training camp holdout and his possible contribution to locker-room distractions.”
Lynch’s publicist released this statement on his behalf:
“I feel like I’ve done it all in Seattle. I’ve won a Super Bowl; made a bunch of money; had a lot of success. After careful consideration and eight wonderful years playing in the National Football League with the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills, I have decided to move on,” Lynch said in the statement. “I have enjoyed my experiences with all of my coaches, teammates, andfans. Now all I want is to return to Oakland to be with my family and continue supporting my foundation in the Bay Area.”
There’s little chance Marshawn Lynch or his publicist will reveal any potential plans ahead of a move to Oakland. Media talking heads speculate he’s wanted to play out the twilight of his career with the Oakland Raiders for some time now.
[Update From CBS Sports] According to former teammate Michael Robinson, Marshawn Lynch wanted a new contract and since he didn’t get it, he started planning to move away from the Seahawks.
“We actually went out last week when I was in Seattle and he and I had a conversation and had a drink,” Robinson said on the NFL Network. “The bottom line is, it is about the money. When a guy starts producing the way Marshawn has been producing, he wants to get paid.””
