George and Gail were not at Port Harvey when the sinking occurred. Thanks to the quick thinking of several neighbors, though, the oven, fryer, some small appliances, tables, chairs, and other items from the restaurant were saved. All refrigerators, freezers, tools, and stock in the store was destroyed. Most importantly, nobody was hurt in the incident.
The docks were not significantly damaged and Port Harvey will be operating in 2016.
George and Gail are committed to reopening the restaurant and store as quickly as possible.
George writes, “Gail and I feel we still have our health, no one got hurt and we are not scared of a little work, yes it hurts like hell to see your dream on the bottom of the bay but we can always make a better dream as we saw we can make it work and this is the lifestyle we enjoy. It’s a setback but we will carry on even if it’s a big tent. Again we want to thank the whole boating communities for the compassion shown to us over this situation, they may never know how much it helps us deal with this. We will still be at the Seattle Boat Show and we will be open next year one way or another maybe with a cinnamon bun in one hand and a hammer in the other.”
We’ll update this page as we learn more.
