Reuven Carlyle: For the first time, due to a law I crafted in 2013 in strong partnership with former Sen. Rodney Tom, the state is beginning to release details of tax benefits received for new tax exemptions. Responsibly opening the books of which companies benefit from how much tax value is a vital step toward depoliticizing and improving decision making about tax preferences. Surely advocates on the left and right can agree that the public benefits from public access to relevant tax data. As I leave my position as chair of the Finance Committee, I am proud of this big step forward in the public’s right to know what is going on with tax dollars. We have much more work to do together.
