Bill Quick is upset that I write about South Carolina.
I write quite a bit about South Carolina. In part this is motivated by a troll here on TA, my brother in law Bill Quick. He lives there and has been a pretty nasty troll … going so far as to attack me by filing complaints about THE Ave at my employer, the University of Washington … claiming among other things that TA runs pornography! He even used a public records request to “put” my emails, effectively destroying the privacy of my academic colleagues.
Bill may have provoked my attention but he is not the real story. More importantly, I see South Carolina as a paradigm for the horrible, persistent racism of the right and the south. I am sure that the same issue pertain to Mississippi, Texas and other states that were founded in American racism. Finally, South Carolina is especially to me because I am ashamed of the role its Jewish community played and still plays in Southern racism.
