David Brewster How Univeristy Prezidents Get Hired by Search Firms
This eye-opening story on search firms and all they overlook in placing academic jobs is helpful in explaining why UW has had very mixed success with its previous three presidents, and by implication why it was smart in going with a fully vetted inside candidate this time. The story also reports that former UW President Richard McCormick departed after Regents learned of “an affair with a staff member,” something not reported to Rutgers and apparently not known by Rutgers. Indeed that episode was barely known, though widely whispered, here in Seattle.
