Pope Francis condemns Sawant’s policies as antisemitic.

Roman triumphal march into their capital, carrying the treasures of the Jewish Temple.

Sawant and the red bookSawant and her supporters seem to grab on to every  “liberal”cause .. without a concern as to the cause being a good cause or a very bad one.

Notably, she dissed the Vietnamese community for wanting to fly the old Vietnamese flag .. you know the one that was evil?  In the same spirit, Sawant is an adamant supporter of tribal status for the Duwamish.  I share the latter but wonder why All THE OTHER LOCAL TRIBES ARE OPPOSED?  And of course, here in District 3, Sawant touts her skin as somehow trumping Pamela Banks’ status as an African American. Frankly, all of this strikes me as condescending racism!

Inevitably Sawant also buys into the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.  She even tried to get the Seattle City  Council to pass a resolution condemning Israel while condoning Hamas.

I am a firm supporter of the right of the Palestinians to their own homelands, but that goal is NOT what BDS espouses.   BDS’ most prominent leader Omar Barghouti dissed Israel’s existence, saying that Israel “was Palestine, and there is no reason why it should not be renamed Palestine.” Another BDS leading light, Ahmed Moor, is even more blunt: “BDS does mean the end of the Jewish state.”  California State University professor As’ad Abu Khalil  stated, “Justice and freedom for the Palestinians are incompatible with the existence of the State of Israel.”

Even Pope Francis, like me a supporter of the need for a Palestinian start,  calls Sawant’s positions  antisemitism. The Pope was doubtless aware of this activism, which is particularly prevalent in Europe, and acted to address it unambiguously on the 50th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, the Vatican II condemnation of bigotry toward the Jews.

“To attack Jews is anti-Semitism, but an outright attack on the State of Israel is also anti-Semitism,” the Pope told a World Jewish Congress delegation. “There may be political disagreements between governments and on political issues, but the State of Israel has every right to exist in safety and prosperity.”

I want to just throw you a curb ball and that is we the United States citizens are tired of subsidizing Israel and other nations. We the citizens need the money and we’re just enabling the 1%; Corporations and nations that expect hand outs and we bend over and give it to them. We say no more of our tax payer’s money.

How does this relate to the post?? The post only deals with antisemitisn.. Are you saying that opposition to spending money on Israel is not intrinsically anti semitic? OK I agree… Now what?
