America’s cops are out of control, and something has to be done. Police violence against citizens keep getting more absurd. In Baltimore, a high-ranking cop — a district commander — stopped a guy for no reason and asked him what he had in his pocket. The man said, “a chapstick,” and pulled it out for the cop to see. Then, the cop shot him in the leg, and when the victim’s brother tried to go to his aid the cop threatened to shoot him, too. In this case, the cop is black and the victim is white, but I don’t think this case is about racism, it’s more about trigger-happy cops. In my opinion, this stuff happens because lenient immunity laws shield rogue cops from legal responsibility, and I think it’s time to change those laws to make it easier to hold cops accountable for their behavior. Until then, none of us are safe. When you’re in more danger from the police than criminals, things are out of whack. Read about this outrage here.
