I’m not sure why she was a Democrat in the first place. Family tradition? In any case, she’s now a Republican, so the Rowan County Democrats won’t have to scramble to find a primary candidate against her in 2018. The GOP certainly seems like a more appropriate home for an elected official who thinks her job is to break the law. But where does that leave the voters in last year’s election who thought they voted in a law-abiding Democrat and are stuck with a scofflaw Republican? Doesn’t this constitute some kind of electoral fraud?
