So a nut job kills 9 good (Black) folks in a church in Charleston and the result is the good burghers , 150 years after the end of the Civil War, take down the rebel flag. Sadly few if any of the (white) burghers had the grace to attend the final flag lowering ceremony .. it was pretty much a black only affair.
You might think the good white burghers would care more about this gun stuff if the murder had been done by one of their cops? After all the crazy guy was crazy!
Sad about the starsnbars but not so much concern about guns .. at least not yet. There seems to have been little outrage a few weeks before when a cop killed a black guy with a well placed shot in the back. That cop got fired and will be tried but seems not much more will be done to ask about the Palmetto State’s tradition of gun violence. After all, this was the first state where the firs brave rebels took their guns up to defend the place against the yankees and the rebel slaves.
Maybe things would change if a white guy got killed by a cop, again by a shot in the back?
Zachary Hammond was a 23 year old white kid on a date in a Hardee’s parking lot. There was some pot n the car, apparently the property of a friend who was in the car too. Mr. Hammond was shot to death by a zealous cop,
The undercover officer from the Seneca PD had arranged a “drug” buy .. you know that evil weed? The cop was puresueng Mr. Hammond’s 23 year old friend, a suspect dealer in the evil weed. The cop approached the car, with his weapon drawn — standard practice during drug arrests.
Now the story gets confusing. The police chief, John Covington, says officer felt threatened because Hammond drove right at him ! Apparently the car moved sideways! The officer, in self defense, fired his gun into the open driver’s side window, killing the 23 year old driver with two shots in the back.
The attorney representing the dead adolescetbn said: “The shots were so close in proximity to each other that it would be physically impossible unless the car was stopped and the officer came up very close to an open window,” “Picture a car going 20 miles an hour and I’m fortunate enough to get a shot off, and I hit you — there’s no way I can get the second shot if the car’s going 20 miles an hour.”
The police chief replied “The attorney wasn’t there, either, He’s got to put his spin on things. His clients are the parents and they’re grieving, I understand that. My heart goes out to them.”
Oh, the friend was fined $500 for possession of a baggie full of evil weed.
