Baltimore police commissioner Anthony Batts was sacked by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake today, CBS News reports. A deputy commissioner will temporarily replace him. Batts was responsible for supervising the Baltimore police department when Freddie Gray, a black man, was killed in police custody.
Gray was black. Six cops, 3 whites and 3 minorities, have been charged with crimes in his case. Rawlings-Blake, Batts, and the D.A. who filed charges against the cops are all African-Americans.
