Texas’ radical governor, Greg Abbott, has appointed a home schooler as head of the Texas Board of Education, which sets policies and standards for Texas public schools.
The appointee, Donna Bahorich, is a Liberty University alumna and Republican Party functionary steeped in charter schools and Christian education. Her own children have never attended a public school; they were homeschooled and then sent to a private high school.
Her appointment appears to signal a push to get Texas students out of public schools and into Christian schools, charter schools, or home schooling — and I wouldn’t be surprised to also see her push for school prayer and Christian education in public schools, the Constitution be damned.
