The title of this posting is wrong, and the implication that the flag usually called the Confederate Battle Flag isn’t a flag is also wrong: per http://www.gs.sc.gov/GS/GS-flag-laws.phtm#1-10-10 — the flag that’s still flying until the legislature takes it down (hopefully soon) is the “South Carolina Infantry Battle Flag of the Confederate States of America [the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia (General Robert E. Lee’s Army) the South Carolina, Georgia, Florida Department version]”

Bullshit. This flag was used as the symbol of Jim Crow, the KKK and segregation from the 1880s until today. It is no different from the swastika. I am sure there are southernors who are proud of their ancestors. I am also sure that sincere Germans remember the valiant men who died in Stalingrad. The German’s pain is outweighed by the pain felt by the descendants of the Holocaust. The same pain is felt by African Americans AND the rest of us who abhor the Confederacy. If SC REALLY wants to commemorate that era, perhaps they should replace the Palmetto flag with one honoring the memory of Jemmy “Cato” Carter or Denmark Vesey.

You can spew all the misinformed and hate-filled venom you want, but your vile words do not erase the simple fact that the Confederate Battle Flag is considered a flag by the SC government — and hopefully is one that will come down soon from the Statehouse grounds and elsewhere except in museums.

How am I misinformed? You say such things but never seem to have anything to cite. Are oyu going to tell me African Americans do not see that damned thing as a flag of hate? or that it was not they symbol of Jim Crow and the KKK? Orthat your state is not one of the top homes for racist groups in the US? Can you tell me why there is as honoring Tillman on the capital grounds or why instead of Vesey there is a statue in your city honoring Benjamin Davis?? Or, since we are discussing the damned thing flying over your state house .. till recently .. do you even know when and why it was placed there???

So yeh, I despise the politics of SC ,, you live theer, what do you do to fix it?

As for “hate” Is it hateful to detest endemic racism?
