We Have Drought, Seattle Style

Seattle City LightLake Washington is not about to dry up, BUT our water based life style may be in for a bad time.

Last week Gov. Jay Inslee  declared all of Washington to be in a drought.  The easiest way to see this from Seattle is to look east to the Cascades.  Our snow-pack is down 84% from normal.  No snow means no runoff, no runoff means trouble for farmers and salmon.

The Governor says the same thing is true to the East “On the Olympic Peninsula, where there would normally be 80 inches of snow now, flowers such as glacier lilies are blooming.”

As a 40 year resident I also remember shortages of hydro driven electricity here when the snow did not fill our reservoirs. Fortunately, City Light is doing its job.  The reservoirs have been kept full so you can use water to run your refer and make ice cubes!
