Boston’s WRKO announced Tuesday that it will be 100 percent Rush-free.
The station, billed as “Boston’s Talk Station,” is the largest yet to lose Limbaugh. The breakups began in 2012 when Limbaugh went from controversial to offensive in his attacks on Sandra Fluke, then a Georgetown Law student, who testified before Congress about contraception.
Advertisers began fleeing shortly thereafter, and many stations have dropped him since.
WRKO did not set a date for Limbaugh’s final show on its airwaves.
Previously, Indianapolis’ WIBC had been the largest market to cancel Limbaugh, but now Boston, the 10th largest market in the United States, holds that honor. According to Media Matters, Limbaugh’s syndicator released the following statement:
“We were unable to reach agreeable terms for The Rush Limbaugh Show to continue on WRKO. A final broadcast date will be announced in the near future.”
