No tipping at Ivar’s

Ivarr's

Last night my wife and I ate at IVAR’s to celebrate their new tipping policy.

Ivar’s is going the whole way … raising workers to a real wage … $15/hr .. and doing away with tipping

Management is serious about paying workers a fair wage. Prices on the menus will rise by 20%. The tip line on the credit slip will be removed.

If YOU feel the wait person was great, you can leave a cash tip or write in a line “Tip 5% ” on your check. Ivar’s will pay the worker, you can pay for extra service! AND, the waiters get an 8% commission!

Kudos for Ivar’s! For a while now, I have been carrying a pack of $1s to tip fast food workers. It just seemed fair to tip when the gal in the drive through window went out of her way to be polite and helpful.

By the way, I love Ivar’s.  Where many Seattle restaurants have tried to make salmon a gourmet experience, The Real Thing, salmon,  is best when cooked simply over wood.  As we approach the season for salmon, with new strains coming as rivers and bays fill with fish, I look forward to tasting them at Ivar’s!

I will continue to tip at McDs and now will add Ivar’s to a place where I tip not to be sure the server is paid but because I appreciate the extra help!
