Iran’s nuclear program was a threat. The prospect of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons was unsettling and would have destabilized the entire Middle East, and raised the risk of these weapons spreading to other countries and rogue regimes. Without question, it was a problem that had to be addressed. Republicans wanted to deal with it by military force. Obama appears to have solved it with diplomacy. The GOP is a one-trick pony, incapable of solving complex international problems by any means except blowing up villages and killing people. Reality demands more nuanced leadership than that. Thank God that Obama and not some stupid warmonger is our president.
As a Polyanna I hope for more. The Repugnant Party here and the Bibi cheredim in Israel have unfairly demonized Iran. Yes, Iran IS a threat t Israel. But, that does not make it “the world’s top state sponsor of terrorism.” Since Khomeini, Iran has acted in a very rational, nationalistic manner. WE .. through our proxy Iraq, invaded Iran and used weapons of mass destruction .. poison gas! Before that WE over through a democratic govt in Iran and put the hated Shah in power. WE shot down a civilian Iranian airliner. Meanwhile THEY have fought wars to secure their borders ..including supporting us in Iraq and Afghanistan.
They do sponsor Assad and they do sponsor Hezbollah. In Kuwait they also sponsor the indigenous Huthis ..shia like the Iranians. These are all within the actions of a local, ambitious power … none of these are actrs of terrorism.
