In bidding Congress farewell today, GOP Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) compared his tribulations to those of another Illinois politician. “Abraham Lincoln held this seat in Congress for one term,” Schock said on the floor. “But few faced as many defeats in his personal business and public life as he did. His continual perseverance in the face of these trials, never giving up, is something all of us Americans should be inspired by, especially when going through a valley in life.”
Lincoln my ass! Lincoln wasn’t a party boy. He didn’t resign from Congress for converting taxpayer and campaign funds to personal use. He didn’t leave under a cloud and facing criminal investigation. Lincoln was a uniter and a healer, not a divider and partisan bombthrower. Lincoln was one of history’s great men. Schock is schlock.
My guess is he’ll become a lobbyist now.
