During a committee hearing last week on a bill to strip convicted rapists of parental rights, New Mexico state Rep. Kenny Martinez, a Democrat, said “rape is defined in many ways, and some of it is just drunken college sex.” When Republicans criticized his remark, Martinez fired back at them by demanding apologies: “To create a political stunt on something this important, I really think they owe an apology to every victim of rape in the state of New Mexico.” No, he owes his constituents his resignation.
