Sen. Tom Cotton, the instigator and author of that outrageously irresponsible (and arguably illegal) letter to Iran aimed at undermining the official foreign policy of the United States of America, is one of the youngest and least experienced members of Congress. He served only one term in the House before the voters of Arkansas promoted him to the Senate in last fall’s election. He’s been in that job a few weeks. He’s 37 years old.
Normally, a new hire keeps his mouth shut, and his eyes and ears open, and spends a few years learning as much about the business as he can before trying to take over the CEO’s job. Not this guy. A former Army Ranger, he hits the ground running. Even if he doesn’t know the terrain or how to run.
Want to know how the Republicans got themselves into such a mess? By letting a wet-behind-the-ears pup take over the show, that’s how. Which makes you wonder whether anyone is in charge of the Republican Party.
