Someone’s fibbing. Police claim Jamar Nicholson’s friend pulled what looked like a real gun, took up a shooting stance, and pointed it at the officer. Nicholson says he never saw the fake replica gun; his friend was merely borrowing a bottle of cologne from him as they were cutting through an alley on their way to school when he heard someone shout “Freeze!”, then an instant later he was shot in the back. There’s no way you can reconcile those two stories. In any event, police concede the cop was shooting at the other guy, the one allegedly brandishing the toy gun, and acknowledged that Nicholson was hit by accident. Nicholson’s lawyer says he doubts the cop would have opened fire if the boys had been white.
