THE Ave Scene: Our Favorite Restaurant
Some years ago we were hungry in Seattle. Looking for a place to park at the base of Queen Anne Hill , we found a space in front of a restaurant called Perché No. We went in and Perché No become a central event in our lives in Seattle ever since. Is Kong an Italian name?.
The Kong story must have begun with Marco Polo leaving sperm behind. When David and Lily came to the US, David became an
Italian chef! The word Italian is emphasized because theKongs not only learned to cook Italian, he and Lily became Italian. Friends from Italy go there with us … and, as only Italians can do David and my friends go off into a world of their own …. hands gesticulating wildly punctuated by hugs and kisses. (David is fluent in several Italian Languages as well as in Mandarin Cantonese, and English. I understand Lily’s Italian is … less fluent.) Located not far from the Seattle Opera House, the restaurant featured Opera. Later the restaurant had to move and ended up in a building David and Lil designed to look like one of those funky pink buildings outside of Rome. The food is still great. The opera is still there. The kids, growing up in David shadow, are now major chefs on their own in the wealthier part of the world .. Singapore.
