Tamir Rice, 12, and his sister, 14, did nothing wrong. These children had a right to be where they were, doing what they did: Playing in a public park. They broke no laws, committed no crime. Yet Tamir is dead, and his sister was violently tackled and thrown to the ground by a burly police officer, handcuffed, and shoved into a police cruiser. It’s not surprising the City of Cleveland tried for 3 weeks to keep this video of the assault on Tamir’s sister from being seen by the public. Under legal duress, the city finally released it. What do you think? If the men attacking these children weren’t police officers, everything else being the same, would we consider them dangerous and violent criminals?
