Real-life success refutes b.s. every time.
Major Sherwood F. Moran, USMC, who was the most successful U.S. military interrogator of World War 2 and wrote the U.S. armed forces interrogators’ “bible,” never tortured anyone. Not even the loathesome Japanese. He used empathetic rather than coercive interrogation methods to get militarily useful information from Japanese captives. And he got results.
Of course, we’ve got to expect Dick Cheney to defend the Bush administration’s use of torture on “War on Terror” detainees. After all, he was its prinicipal perpetrator.
I am a U.S Army veteran on active service as a commissioned officer served in Germany 1963-1966. Assigned to recruiting duty 1965-1967. Republic of South Viet Nam 1968-69. As an intelligence officer (S-2) we were trained that torture of POWs was not to be used as a method of extracting valuable military information. It just doesn’t work. Dick Cheney is “full of crap”! When his lips are moving, he’s lying. Both he and George Bush were “neophytes” about war as we now realize.
