The GOP’s stubborn resistance to immigration reform is so stupid and counterproductive even the rightwing Seattle Times editorial board can’t condone it. In an editorial published today the Seattle Times said, “President Obama is right to take action on the broken U.S. immigration system. The nation can no longer wait for a do-nothing Congress to do nothing yet again,” and called the GOP’s angry response “needlessly melodramatic.” The editorial says “Obama had to act” and calls on Congress to enact “comprehensive immigration reform.” It further says, “The need for immigration reform should weigh heavily on Boehner, incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the rest of Congress. … They should stop complaining and get to work.”

Amen to that, but don’t hold your breath. Republicans would rather posture than — God forbid — use their lawmaking powers to govern and solve real-life problems affecting real people.
