“U.S.-British scientist John O’Keefe and Norwegian scientists May-Britt Moser and Edvard Moser won the Nobel Prize in medicine on Monday for discovering the ‘inner GPS’ that helps the brain navigate through the world,” according to CBS News.
Hummph. Given that most people can’t find their way out of an outhouse with a lighted compass, this sounds like giving an award for discovering something that isn’t there, such as a tenth planet or canals on Mars. Now, if they had explained Republicans, that would really be something.
I was surprised as well.

It was a surprise for me. We have a new institute here (just erected) that presumably will benefit from this prize. The institute is funded by Paul Allen, making one a bit skeptical about this sort of work. Is it seminal to a new era for neurobiology? .
