We hear a lot about the income from the UWs pre-professional sports being used to pay for less valuable varsity activities. I happened to look at the Harvard Gazette tonight. Odd but it seems that Harvard’s AD, with far less income than the Huskies, supports a lot more sports than we have.
It would be interesting to compare the budgets of the AD at schools like Harvard with schools that find other ways to finance sports. This is not just an issue for the over endowed Ivies. Eastern Washington seems to field a lot of teams too and I suspect they support a lot more WA state kids on their teams than we do.
WA state private schools seems to do a great job too. Look at the Gonzaga offerings! If you really want to be impressed at how a public university can offer its students the opportunity to be athletes, look north at UBC!
Curious about this, I also looked at some state schools that do not belong to Div 1 .. University of NH is pretty impressive! —
