Despite the impression you may get from some of my recent posts, I don’t have it in for police.
I simply struggle to accept their human frailties when these include bigotry, brutality, dishonesty, and a cavalier attitude toward the lives and property of citizens they’ve sworn to serve and protect.
In particular, I don’t understand the “blue wall of silence” tradition. You’d think competent and professional police officers — there are plenty of them — want to get rid of bad eggs who drag down their departments’ reputations. Instead, they close ranks to protect them. I don’t get it. That carries no benefit for the profession or those doing the job as it should be done.
No, I don’t despise or disrespect the police. I just wish they were more constructive about professional discipline in their ranks.
