After a bitter and divisive Republican primary, my friend Michelle Nunn finally learned who her right-wing opponent will be in the race for U.S. Senate: David Perdue. And according to the latest poll, she’s five points ahead of him!

There’s so much at stake in this race. Michelle could become the first woman ever elected to the U.S. Senate from Georgia. What’s more, a Nunn victory could give us a crucial chance to flip a seat from red to blue this November and secure our Democratic majority.

With the national spotlight focused on this race, the next 24 hours will be pivotal. Michelle’s opponent, David Perdue, is the wrong choice for Georgia — and if he wins this race, Republicans would be one big step closer to capturing the Senate majority.

While Perdue was CEO of Dollar General, his company discriminated against female employees and paid them less than men, and got caught in the act by federal investigators — all while Perdue pocketed $40 million for himself.

Also on Perdue’s watch, Haggar Clothing fired 1,667 American workers and shipped their jobs overseas. And while running a North Carolina firm named Pillowtex, Perdue gave himself a $2 million bonus after laying off 6,450 people.

It’s appalling. And we can’t afford for him to win.
