Kansas cut funding to its schools as a way to help get the state through the “Great Recession.” Parents and school districts filed a law suit claiming that the cuts had harmed students, especially those in poorer districts. The case has now been ruled on by the Kansas Supreme Court, and they have found the current funding levels in Kansas public schools to be unconstitutional. Our own Supreme Court made a similar ruling here. So now the state legislature should be forced to find the funds? Unfortunately the Supreme Courts do not have a direct way of enforcing a ruling against their won states.
