Yesterday, Alexander Imich died at the age of 111 in New York. There are 66 women who are older than he was.
Imich was born a Jew in Czestochowa, Poland. He said he was not allowed to join the Polish Navy due to anti-Semitism. He and his wife fled to a Soviet labor camp after the Nazi invasion.
Mr. Imich held the title of “world’s oldest man” for only two months. He said he never drank alcohol or had children.
