US politicians raise questions over Pfizer bid
Pfizer’s bid for AstraZeneca is being questioned by US politicians.
The governors of the states of Maryland and Delaware have written to Pfizer’s boss saying they are “very concerned” about the deal and the possibilities of job losses in their states. This idea is likely the opening wedge of a move to relocate corporate headquarters wherever there are the best tax advantages, independent of where the money is earned or the corporate entity was created.
Seattle’s own lessons from Boeing foreshadowed this. Boeing has stripped Seattle of the resources built here, including state resources, to compete in aerospace. Now Pfizer and others are doing the same to the US!
Pfizer, like all Pharma, including companies based in Europe, has long been subsidized by US funding of the basic science research under-girding all drug development.
