Chihuly fakes
Dale Chihuly famously makes no art of his own. Instead he runs a factory where others, anonymously, create Chihouly stuff. Last spring Federal authorities arrested a Renton man for offering fake Dale Chihuly glass pieces and paintings. Ironically, the fraud was discovered when a generous collector tried to to donate works by Chihuly to a museum at Gonzaga University :
I would really like to see the pieces and woud consider buying one for a few hundred dollars.. “Chihouly” is easily imitated … easily that is if the skills of the forger are high. As an art lover, I would not be too excited because I find Chihulies rather more impressive as craft then art and even then, the level of “what’s new” is not so high. If the craft is good and the price is right I would honor the faux Chihuly with a place in my front yard sculpture collection.
