SUSPECTS: Iran’s Mossad
One very difficult part of the mystery of flight MH370 has been who might have stolen a plane and not bragged about it? While most terrorists brag about their actions there is one class of exceptions … the secret services of nations that are in conflict with one another … the obvious examples being Israel’s Mossad and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. This focus was suggested to me the other day by someone who noted that a very large number of passengers on the flight were engineers working for the company that had written the software for Iran’s uranium enriching centrifuges … the software attacked by a mysterious computer virus, Stuxnet. If Iran’s Mossad hijacked the plane they would have done so as a threat to the Mossad, not something needing bragging points on Al Jazeera. Of course the idea has been dismissed because the two Iranians aboard seem to have been traveling on passports stolen so they could emigrate to Europe … exactly the sort of cover Israel’s Mossad or any other agency mimicking Mossad would used.
Now Reuters reports that radar data suggests the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 was deliberately flown hundreds of miles off course. “Analysis of the Malaysia data suggests the plane, with 239 people on board, diverted from its intended northeast route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and flew west instead, using airline flight corridors normally employed for routes to the Middle East and Europe.” This indicates that it was either being flown by the pilots or someone with knowledge of those waypoints, the sources said. They also gave new details on the direction that an unidentified aircraft was following aviation corridors taken by commercial planes flying from Southeast Asia to the Middle East or Europe.
A source familiar with the investigation told Reuters “What we can say is we are looking at sabotage, with hijack still on the cards.”
