What does Senator Schumer NOT understand? 

The merger of Comcast with Time Warner amounts to a takeover of America, a corporate coup.

After coming out in support of Comcast’s proposed acquisition of Time Warner Cable, Sen. Chuck Schumer ,,, a member of the Senate Anti Trust Committee, will REC– USE himself from weighing in on the proposal because of family ties to the deal, Capital New York reports.

The liberal democrat had already endorsed the deal as being good for jobs in NY.  He said that he was “very pleased with the news that Comcast is fully committed to following-through on previous commitments to jobs, particularly the job additions coming to Buffalo at Compass East.”

What does Schumer not understand about the words monopoly, freedom of speech, and corporatism?  This deal not only gives Comcast control of nearly 60% of the TV and internet connections in the US, none of its rivals amount to any real competition.

This might not be an issue of Comcast were just another utility .. supplying data instead of water and electricity.  The worst that might mean is that Comcast would have succeeded in replacing Ma Bell.  Unlike Ma Bell, however Comcast also sells programming and controls a huge swathe of the nes and information over the internet.  If that does nto frighten you, Comcast has the same tools for monitoring what you watch, type, and say as the NSA, Facebook, Amazon and Google combined.

So far Comcast’s claim is that their monopoly will not raise prices are restrict internet access.

The company  held a conference call Thursday with lobbyists and consultants to begin forming a strategy on how to overcome hurdles in Washington as Congress considers the deal.
