Limbaugh was reacting Wednesday to a bit from “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday in which Fallon and Springsteen sang a version of the New Jersey native’s hit song “Born to Run” with lyrics making fun of Christie and the bridge controversy surrounding him.
The radio host tore into Springsteen, recounting how Christie, a huge fan of The Boss, wept after meeting Springsteen for the first time at an event for Hurricane Sandy relief. Limbaugh said Springsteen has to know how much he means to the governor.
“You are only a friend of a Democrat for as long as they can use you, and why this isn’t seen by people is beyond me,” Limbaugh said. “It was a big deal that Obama got Springsteen on the phone from Air Force One. … And here is the guy who brought him to tears by talking to him, making fun of him on a late-night comedy show.”
Limbaugh pointed out that Christie has apologized for the controversy about lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, allegedly ordered by the governor’s staff as political retribution to a local mayor, and denied any connection to it.
