About a year ago sn Oklahoma lawmaker tried to laugh off his use of the phrase “Jew me down” during a legislative debate. His attempted recovery? “I apologize to the Jews. They’re good small businessmen as well.”
The reality is that this sort of thing is built into our culture as in:
“I am fagged out” for I am tired.
“He is a Pharisee” for “he” is a pompous poseur
“Don’t Jew me” for do not cheat me.
“You throw like a girl” for … well ….
“Damned white of you” a term that mixes admiration with the KKK?
“Its the Christian thing to do!” as opposed to the nasty Buddhist thing?
“Manly act of courage” nuff said?
“What a savage thing to do!” ss opposed ot the nice European thing?
“You idolize money!” rather than the holy wafer and wine?
All of these phrases denigrate someone.
