The excuse of Japanese imperialism in WII was that Japan was (just) acting like a European power. But European Imperialism was about one thing .. race! Japan prime minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to Japan’s war shrine shows that Japanese racism is still there.
Shinzo Abe’s public visit to the Yasukuni shrine was every bit as disgusting as the Bitburg SS cemetery celebrated by Ronald Reagan’s visit in 1985 or the decision in South Carolina to fly the Stars and Bars in front of their state capital. This insult to the victims of Japan’s racist wars of WWII, was a repeat of a visit by PM Junichiro Koizumi just over seven years ago. The Prime minister provoked anger in China and Korea. As a human being, I am hurt when anyone celebrates racism.
Perhaps Abe should visit the Confederate Veterans memorial in Charlotte South Carolina as well?
